If you are looking to change up your hair care routine or are in a brand new city without a go-to salon, it can be a bit of a harrowing process to find a place where you are truly comfortable and where you know you’ll always come away with the look you want. With that in mind, we have compiled a list of some great tips to help you choose a hair salon in Anchorage, AK that is right for you:

  • Ask friends and coworkers: If you have friends or coworkers whose styles you admire, ask them for referrals! Find out where they get their cuts and colors done, and if there is a particular stylist they recommend. This is a great first step in finding a salon, because you’ve actually seen their work on your friends already, and they’ll likely be more than happy to share their experiences at the salon with you.
  • Research online: Do a quick Google search for salons in your area and look at their websites and social media pages. You’ll be able to get a good idea of their capabilities, view photos of their work and read what people are saying about their business. You can find reviews from other customers, as well, and get inside information about the quality of the work and other potential tips or red flags about certain salons.
  • Visit in person: Before you make a decision on your salon, pay a visit in person just to check it out. You can then see how busy the salon is, how clean it’s kept, if it’s modern and if there are clients who are around your age and who have your same kind of style. You can also meet some of the stylists before having them work on your hair.
  • Check prices: Prices don’t necessarily have to be the sole factor in your hair salon decision, but you definitely don’t want to end up wasting money on a place that’s out of your price range but gives you the same quality of cut you could easily find elsewhere. You should look into the prices of their products as well, as this could be an indicator of service prices.
  • Go local: Whenever possible, try to support local businesses. They tend to be run by people who are more passionate about hair care. Large chains might have a price edge, but they typically do not have the same type of in-depth customer service or character of a smaller individual salon.
  • Service offerings: You’ll want to make sure that any salon you choose offers all the services you need. If at all possible, it’s nice to have all of your beauty needs consolidated into a single location. Why go to multiple places for haircuts, coloring, manicures and pedicures, etc. when you can get it all at one location?

Supporting local businesses sounds like a really good idea when it comes to hair care. In addition to the passion you talked about, using a locally owned business would probably be the best way to develop a relationship with your hairstylist. I imagine that when it comes to hair, a good relationship would be the most important thing.

  • In your article, you stated that before you make a decision on your salon, pay a visit in person just to check it out and you can then see how busy the salon is, how clean it’s kept, if it’s modern and if there are clients who are around your age and who have your same kind of style. My family and I just moved to a new city and my wife really wants to find a new salon to go to. I wonder if most hair stylists have the training to do both male and female hair.

  • My wife and I have recently moved to a new town. She is currently looking for somebody that can keep her hair color exactly how she likes it. I didn’t realize how important it is to visit a salon in person to ensure they have clients that have similar styles. I’ll be sure to let my wife know about this tip.

I think the article makes a really good point that asking friends and coworkers for referrals is a great way to find a good hair salon. I bet it would save you a lot of time too by going off a referral than having to do your own research online. I have heard too that some hair salon’s will actually give you a discount or some other reward system if you were referred to them too.

  • I agree with you in that it is always a great idea to remember to read online reviews when looking for the best hair salon in your area. It makes sense that reading what previous clients have to say can help you determine if the salon you are thinking about is the right one for you.We just moved to a new town and my wife is looking for the best hair salon to help her with her hair so I’ll make sure I refer her to your site.

  • Thank you so much for talking about how friends can be a great source of referrals when looking for a hair salon. I can totally see how asking those who have the best hair can help you find the best suggestions to explore. Personally, I would want to make sure I read online reviews and compare a couple of salons before I make my choice.

  • Thanks for the terrific read. You mentioned in it that you should choose a salon that keeps a clean working space and cuts hairstyles similar to what you have in mind. I’ve been looking for a new hair salon as I just moved across town and want to find one near me. I’ll have to look out for great hair when I’m out and about and ask them who does their hair, as that could lead me towards someone great.
