Curious About Eyebrow Tinting? Here’s What You Need to Know
Eyebrow tinting has become a more popular cosmetic trend in recent years, and there are a variety of ways in which people can do it. But what is it, and why should you consider doing it?
Here’s an overview of what you should know about brow tinting before visiting your salon in Anchorage, AK.
What is eyebrow tinting?
Eyebrow tinting refers to the process of applying a semi-permanent dye to the eyebrows with the goals of shaping, defining and/or enhancing them. This is something you can have done at a salon or at certain doctors’ offices, or, depending on your goals, you might even be able to do it yourself with a take-home kit that gives you everything you need. The goal is to get thicker and more youthful brows.
What does the process look like?
What you can expect out of your eyebrow tinting process will vary based on your needs. But if you go into a salon or clinic in Anchorage, AK, you can expect the session to only take about 15 minutes.
Before you have your session, you’ll have a consultation with your specialist to talk about your goals. How full do you want your brows to look, and how natural should they be? What sort of preparation work will be required?
When the process actually begins, the specialist starts by cleaning the brows and applying some petroleum jelly to prevent accidental skin stains caused by the dye. They will then mix and apply the dye, starting by going in the direction of your brow hair growth, then moving on to a second layer that goes in the opposite direction. They’ll leave the dye for a few minutes to let its color develop, then remove the excess with a damp paper towel.
It’s completely normal for there to be some dye on the skin under the brows in the immediate aftermath—this will wash away within a couple days. But just to be on the safe side, this is why many people schedule their first session on a Friday, so they have the weekend to allow that excess dye to fade away.
When do the results start to show up?
Specialists will recommend you avoid getting your brows wet for at least 12 hours after the treatment, and will recommend and/or provide certain gels or creams to use as cleansers. But the results will show up pretty much right away, and will allow you to cut back on the brow products you typically use in your routine.
You can expect the tint to last anywhere from three to six weeks, at which point you should visit your salon for a touch-up. In the meantime, avoid exfoliation or oil-based products in that area, as they could cause that tint to fade faster.
